But beyond that, it can also be a great way for parents and kids to bond together. As your go-to source for woodworking classes for kids in NJ, The DIY Joint is here to help. Four Unique Woodworking Projects for Kids and Parents

Crayon Holder

Do you have a child who loves to color? If so, this woodworking project is one way for you to bond over their love of color and it provides a unique way to store all of those crayons, colored pencils, and markers that are lying around the house. All you need is a few 1x3 scraps of wood that you can glue together to create a 3x3 block. From there, simply drill multiple holes in one of the sides that are deep enough to hold crayons, markers, or pencils.

Bird House

This is a classic woodworking project for kids and parents, primarily because of its simple approach and the amount of enjoyment it delivers long after its completion. Most birdhouse designs can be put together with simple wood squares, a dowel rod, and some wood glue and screws. Once it is done, you and your child can hang it outside and watch the birds come and go.

Nail String Art Board

Who doesn’t love a cool string art design? This fun project lets your kiddo choose a picture of their choice, attach it to a piece of wood, and then outline the picture with tiny finish nails that they can attach colored strings to and create their picture. Any type of wood will work just fine for this project, so long as it is thick enough to hold the nails without splitting.

Gumball Machine

In a previous post, we reviewed five classic projects for kids’ woodworking projects. Gumball machines are one of those classic projects that you just can’t go wrong with and there are a wide variety of plans online to choose from. You and your child will love creating this machine together and the various challenges that the moving pieces can present, and your child will love the sweet gumballs that come out of it.
